Overview

The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and executing internal communication that aligns with business goals and enhances the company’s internal and external brand. This role will be in close partnership with senior leadership, Employee Resources, and Marketing. This role will craft and coordinate key messaging, manage platforms, and drive communication initiatives that inform, engage, and inspire employees while strengthening stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission, and values of BMC.
  • Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Internal Communications:
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g. Safety, IT, Employee Resources, Legal, Talent & Development, Community Engagement, Facilities, Operations) to support and execute internal communication plans aligned to company strategy and values.
    • Manage and maintain SharePoint-based intranet as the central resource for news and information.
    • Support development and delivery of leadership communications, including formatting, editing, and distribution of key messages.
    • Align with Marketing on branding for internal corporate PowerPoint templates, corporate email signatures and letterhead, etc.
    • Support implementation, adoption and effective use of internal communication tools (e.g., Teams, SharePoint, AlertMedia).
    • Support a digital-first approach to internal communications, leveraging tools such as Microsoft SharePoint, Teams, and digital signage to deliver timely, accessible, and engaging content.
    • Monitor and maintain internal communication channels (e.g., digital signage, breakroom displays, intranet) to ensure content is current, accurate and functioning properly. Coordination with internal teams to address issues as needed.
    • Perform regular content audits and updates as required.
    • Monitor communication effectiveness using available metrics (e.g. email engagement, intranet usage, employee feedback surveys) and provide recommendations to improve reach and impact.
    • Support intake and prioritization of internal communication requests, helping ensure alignment with business standards and priorities.
    • Support communication coordination with internal stakeholders during operational or safety events.
    • Assist in development of emergency communication plans including message templates, and internal protocols.
    • Support the distribution of critical information to employees through approved channels.
    • Support targeted communication distribution based on audience (e.g., role, location, function) to ensure messages reach the appropriate employees.
    • Maintain consistency and clarity of across internal communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in internal communications, employee communications, or organizational communications.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Teams required.
  • Excellent writing, editing, interviewing and content planning skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and cross-team coordination skills.
  • Experience tracking communication engagement (email metrics, intranet usage, etc.).
  • Experience in managing or supporting internal communication channels or tools (SharePoint, Teams, email, digital signage).
  • Experience with Canva, or video editing tools preferred.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Viva.
  • Familiarity with industrial, service-based, or field operations environments is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to build cross-functional relationships, navigate challenges and be a great team member.
  • Portfolio of internal communication materials required (e.g., newsletters, intranet content, leadership messages, campaigns)

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily inside throughout the day; however, this position may also require working in non-climate-controlled environments as well as outdoors.
  • Position may require employees to be physically present at designated worksite locations.
  • Position may require travel to other branch locations as needed.
  • Requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting.
  • Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
  • Use of computers and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
