Overview

Technical Trainer

 

Under the direct supervision of the Technical Training Manager, the Technical Trainer will develop and conduct programs to train employees and occasionally customers of Blanchard Machinery Co. on the repair, installation, maintenance, programming, troubleshooting, diagnostics tooling, proper processes, proper methods and operations of machinery and equipment. The Technical Trainer will also be responsible for providing courses on safety and other topics that convey the company Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

Technical Training

  • Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission, and values of BMC.
  • Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Delivery, scheduling, and execution of internal and external (customer) training.
  • Develop and deliver technical training programs that educate technicians and service personnel on how to diagnose, repair, and maintain Caterpillar equipment.
  • Observes class participants in the classroom and in the lab setting- answering questions and determining additional activities to ensure learning.
  • Administers written and practical exams to determine understanding and competency.
  • Creates performance reports to evaluate learning.
  • Facilitation / Instruction at an expected rate of 60-75% of available time.
  • Schedules and secures equipment, training aides, training location and classroom related materials.
  • Conduct training needs assessments of technicians and service personnel and create a plan to address those needs.
  • Develop technical training materials such as manuals, presentations, and videos that are used in training sessions.
  • Maintain accurate training records of training sessions attended by technicians and service personnel and ensure that all required certifications are up to date.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as sales and customer service, to ensure that technicians and service personnel are able to provide the best possible support to customers.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technology, and best practices in technical training and career development ensuring our technical training program is aligned with industry standards and Caterpillar requirements.
  • Possess or achieve Caterpillar Instructor Accreditation within one year.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Career Development/Pathways

  • Work with technical training manager to create and implement strategies for technician retention, including career development plans, performance management, and skill enhancement opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local educational institutions, industry associations, and other relevant organizations to support diesel technician recruitment and training efforts.

ThinkBig Program / Apprenticeships

  • Provides support to the ThinkBIG and apprenticeship programs to include recruiting and selecting efforts, training and academic schedules, and administrative oversight.
  • Coordinate student hiring/onboarding process.
  • Act as a liaison between the dealership and ThinkBig Programs, promoting the program and actively participating in the recruitment of diesel technicians.

BlanchardU Online

  • Assist with building and maintaining BlanchardU LMS.
  • Assist in archiving technician training records.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Education, or Business) or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Level 4 Technician or above (equating to Blanchard Machinery Co. Career Development Program) preferred.
  • Prefer 5 years of industry-related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Caterpillar products, technology, and best practices preferred.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to effectively coach, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of trainers and technicians.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to employees at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Willingness to travel as needed to support training initiatives and recruitment efforts.

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily inside at Blanchard Machinery and outside as necessary to fulfil job duties.
  • Overnight stays & business travel by car and other modes of transportation required.
  • Position requires employee to be physically present at job site location.
  • Job requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting, seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
  • Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
